Accelerated training

What is an accelerated training program?

An accelerated program is an intensive course of study, which covers two and half years of material in one year.

What previous experience is needed to enroll on the course?

A background in a weapons based system would be helpful, but is not essential. Most people who enroll on this course are of intermediate level in some other martial art.

What is the course content?

The course is modular based. There are ten modules, these are as follows:

Module 1 – Solo Baston (single stick)

In this module you are taught combative stick fighting techniques. These are the strikes and defenses which actually work in sparring. In addition, students are taught two person flow drills. Six drills are taught, these drills are excellent for developing quick reflexes, sensitivity and hand-eye co-ordination.

Module 2 – Panantukan (Filipino Boxing)

In this module you are taught unique ways to train and develop footwork. The rare focus y daga (focus pad and knife) training methods are also taught in this module, focus y daga develops correct punching technique and dramatically increases hand and foot speed.

Module 3 – Knife (Baraw)

In this module you are taught knife-fighting and knife defense. Areas covered are knife v. knife, and knife v. empty hands. Techniques such as disarms, locks and chokes are taught. In addition reflex and sensitivity based flow drills such as Palasut, Pit al and Tapi-Tapi are also taught.

Module 4 – Dumog (Filipino Grappling)

In this module you are taught the essentials of stick grappling, knife grappling, and standing empty hand grappling. Grappling with weapons differs vastly from grappling with empty hands, this module teaches the difference.

Module 5 – Doble Baston (Double Stick), and Espada y Daga (Sword & Dagger)

In the double stick module – the double stick co-ordination drills, counter for counter flow drills and combat (sparring) techniques are taught. The espada y daga module teaches the distinction between sword and dagger & stick and knife. Espada y daga is excellent for developing “zoning” footwork and the “trapping” hands.

Module 6 introduces – Pananjakman (Low line kicking)

Advanced Panantukan – focus pad drills are also taught in this module.

Module 7 covers – Amara & Disarms

Amara are advanced templates which teach effective striking patterns, the amara can be practiced alone and then applied against an opponent. Seven amara templates are taught. Disarming techniques are presented in terms of principles, the seven principles which lead to mastering disarms are taught in this module.

Module 8 covers – Sibat (Staff)

The Sibat enhances body mechanics and teaches the principle of dos manos. Various staff techniques from systems such as Tapado, Sciensa and Taw-Taw are taught in this module

Module 9 – Luyog (Lock Flows)

In this module – the 15 count empty hand lock flow is taught. This series of locks teach how to lock the fingers, wrist, elbow, and shoulder. The rarely seen cuentada’s (counters) to the 15 locks are also taught.

Module 10 – Sword

This module teaches the correct use of the sword in the largo mano (long range) and medio mano (medium range). The lethal entry sword cuts are taught – in addition to the correct methods of blocking, and parrying.

The last session of the course is dedicated towards reviewing and testing the whole course content. Apprentice Instructor certificates are awarded to those who complete the course and pass the examination.

The training can be filmed for your reference to allow you to retain the material taught
